专辑简介:

"The way Steve Mednick discovered himself during the last few years and produces one album after the other is just admirable. He is gradually getting acknowledged and more people realize this singing lawyers' strength as singer and as songwriter. We want to shout out loud that Steve Mednick should be cherished as songwriter and deserves an attentive audience for this addictive masterpiece!" Not a bad review from Freddy Cellis at Rootstime in Belgium. "Sunset At The North Pole" is "One of the first really recommendable albums of 2009!" according to Hans Hanegraaf at American Music. "Sunset" was followed up by the collaboration with Eddie Seville "La Collaborazione Dei Due" which was recently named one the the 30 top CDs of 2009 by Rootsy Magazines' Bengt O Tedeborg, as follows: "”Texts on the nights in Louisiana, recollections of the good old days, life choices and the necessity of love in a world where castles built of sand and the band only occasionally play the song you want to hear the future of music leans towards Zevon, REM and Springsteen. Mednick and Seville beautiful singing little, and it certainly helps to make their dynamic and sometimes slightly funky rotrock interesting the whole way.” The New Haven Advocate's Mike Sembos wrote, in September 2009, as follows: "Prolific folk rocker Steve Mednick and his friend Eddie Seville have collaborated before and in the liner notes they claim that this release marks a "real merging of [their] songs." The recordings reflect this sentiment nicely, as this CD breathes with the familiarity and comfort that only comes from sticking to a project and seeing it through. Sounds are crisp and clean, easy on the ears, and performances are relaxed and natural. "Ten Signs" would be the single of the bunch, a straight-ahead country-ish rocker that could have originated in the Tom Petty Dimension. "Lone Star Serenade" is my favorite, with Basement Tapes flavor that's somehow not derivative. They captured magic on that one, and when that happens there's nothing to do but sit back and enjoy it". “Sunset At The North Pole” has been released to favorable reviews in the US and Europe. Patrick Ferrucci, in the New Haven Register said: “Mednick has defined the phrase ‘third time is a charm’. The album is Steve’s third of the year, and it’s the best of a very good bunch. With clear Dylan, Stones and Neil Young influences, the album really works from beginning to end. With help from producer Eddie Seville, Mednick has crafted his most cohesive and engaging album yet, and that’s an accomplishment”. In December Philip Verhaege in Belgium’s Keys and chords e-review: “…Steve (Mednick) brings especially nice melodic and creative changes that make us think of Randy Newman and/or Warren Zevon. ‘Picking Up My Pipe Dreams' starts very slowly, soft and pleasant until it suddenly explodes with great a guitar solo (by Billy Kotsaftis). ‘Stuck In The Middle’ and ‘5761’ make us think back to Bob Dylan singing and playing harmonica. Steve Mednick maps out the global warming crisis on ‘Fragments’. He is rightly concerned about the ice breakers which melt and form a marriage with the sea (‘Sunset at the North Pole…ice cliffs fall to the sea…’). The song is homage to Al Gore for the long debates on this subject. His paeans are not confined to public policy issues, ‘Freewheelin’ is a tribute to all the big road songs of Chuck Berry, Duane Eddy to Eddie Cochran, with guitars completely free to roam”. Rootstime in the Netherlands in December said: "The way Steve Mednick discovered himself during the last few years and produces one album after the other is just admirable. He is gradually getting acknowledged and more people realize this singing lawyers' strength as singer and as songwriter. We want to shout out loud that Steve Mednick should be cherished as songwriter and deserves an attentive audience for this addictive masterpiece”. 2008 was a busy year including the release of the "Time for Change" EP and the showing of “Riverbend Roots” on CPTV, documenting the performance of Mednick’s cover band B.O.O.M. at the River Bend Festival in Chattanooga, Tennessee in June. The band closed the festivities on Thursday evening following ZZ Top. Mednick is currently working on a joint project with his producer, Eddie Seville for a live recording in February and his next solo effort, “What Remains…”. Past Work: Soundwaves Magazine critic Mark Gould in his review of "Ambling Toward The Unknown" has said: "It is indeed gratifying when any musical artist has both the talent and the ambition not to stand on his albeit well-earned laurels, not to fall into the trap of repeating musically what has worked well in the past, but instead takes the creative leap to make even better music than he has before. Such is the task eminently and expertly fulfilled by Connecticut musician/songwriter Steve Mednick on “Ambling,” his third release in what, judging by its growth and spirit, reveals the promise of what is going to be a long and interesting career." "Ambling" is the follow-up to two earlier releases the EP "Dark Ages Reprise" (2006) and "Bucket of Steam” (2007), "...two stark, iconoclastic and powerful releases in their own regard. On both, Mednick brought his musical references to bear, and managed to sound like all of them, and, remarkably, none of them, at the same time". Three releases in a span of fourteen months. In “Ambling,” Mednick "..has truly found his own voice, and what a splendid journey it is. For a listener, the real strength of Mednick’s songs and singing is that they are equal parts intelligent and far above board, all but requiring full attention. This is not your teenager’s Ipod background music. Yet, while the music can be, at times, light and fun, Mednick’s genius is in the details, be it the self-described twists and turns of “Wherever Paths Lead,” the earnestness and standing true and tall of “Words,” the ethereal righteousness of “Prelude to The Fall/Jacksonsville,” or the sparkling simplicity, yet depth of “A Lost Child,” the latter two songs which may be the finest of the many great songs Mednick has written. The New Haven Advocate has called "A Lost Child," the seventh cut on "Ambling" a "great song...the haunting tale of a Parisian girl, captured in doleful piano and sotly-delivered Leonard Cohen-ish insistence". Patrick Ferrucci of the New Haven Register comments: "In 2007 alone, songwriter Steven Mednick released two full-length records, both of which had a few stellar moments on them. And now we have "Ambling Toward the Unknown," a 13-song record that finds Mednick writing more rock songs than before. There's a clear Stones-like swagger on some tracks and obvious Dylan nods on others, but this is the record that sees Mednick go beyond the influences and become a more original songwriter. Personally, the piano driven "St. Lucia Morning" has a really timeless feel, with Mednick's smoky voice straining, but sounding great while doing it. But while "St. Lucia" is the disc's best song, it's certainly not the only good one. "Rules of Order" also stands out as an engaging acoustic-guitar dirge...If "Ambling" is any indication, here's hoping we have another Mednick disc soon. Hope you enjoy listening to the music! Join Steve and his life-long friend Larry Rifkin and enjoy the music of BOOM some Friday or Saturday night in 2009.
