加州歌特乐队Devics，一直有着颓废的美学倾向。以Dustin O’Halloran和Sara Lov为核心的Devics于1993年成立于洛杉机，乐队成员还包括Ed Maxwell、Evan Schnabel。一开始就打算做自己的音乐的他们选择了独立摇滚的DIY路线。1996年，他们在以自己的资金注册的厂牌“Splinter Records”下推出了第一张大碟“Buxom”，Devics在独立乐队如过江之鲫的美国从第一次亮相起就拥有了完善的艺术风格和出色的表现力。两年后他们顺理成章的把第二张专辑“If You Forget Me”送入还为数不多的追随者耳中。然而此时的Devics仍只是深陷地下的自得其乐又多少有点郁郁不得志的众多地下乐队中的一支，直到千年之交他们的EP“The Ghost in the Girl ”的推出，才使Bella Union公司盯上了他们。这张EP里或多或少带有迎合意味的歌特妖氛表明了乐队的微妙转变，也让他们浮出了水面。2001年，乐队在Bella Union旗下推出大碟“My Beautiful Sinking Ship”，赢得了相应的声誉。他们生活富足或至少衣食无忧，他们热爱艺术并且在通往标准中产阶级乏味生活的道路上遭遇挫折或者直接抵抗。总之，他们选择了向下、向幻觉、向昏暗靠拢的艺术方向。所谓艺术，正是把每个人都感受得到却无法诉说的情绪或思想表达出来的东西。而音乐恰恰生来就最具备摹写人类情绪的天赋。Devics的音乐表明他们的十年探索不断地的开启了音乐宝盒的动人能量，用并不复杂的配器和编排轻易地实现了他们暗调、大气的音乐理想。而他们在音乐中不断描摹的梦幻场景更是对进入新世纪后越发迷茫的人类内心暗处感怀小花的一矢中的。想想他们的名字，Devics，一种神话中将人们护送至昏暗的黎明深处的天使。
