[Notes]
Meet The Royalty: the new kings and queens of garage pop. The El Paso, Texas
band s the latest retro act to dig up their parents Ronettes records and
head to the garage, making their music essential listening for fans of the
noisy breezy pop bands like Tennis and Best Coast. But The Royalty doesn t
just have indie cred: they signed to label Victory Records in November, who
sent them on a six-week recording trip to LA to make a new album. Their
latest is How I Like Em a demo the band released to celebrate the signing.
The track shows off their instrumental chops and singer Nicole Boudreau s
soulful voice. We can hear why the band caught Victory s ears: lo-fi self
titled, self-released debut album s cuts like Alexander and Honestly feature
horn section blurts and a hard-riffing pace that s as ska influenced as it
is 60 s obsessed.
