麦莉有个在美国乡村音乐界鼎鼎大名的老爸——比利·雷·塞洛斯，他曾凭歌曲《Achy Breaky Heart》(疼痛的破碎之心)红极一时，现在也是知名电视剧《大都市小医生》的男主角。
因为爸爸的关系，麦莉很小就开始表演，2003年便开始了她的职业表演生涯，当时出演一部电视剧《Doc》，然后在《Love Boat;The Next Wave》里客串角色，而最显著的一小部分是在蒂姆-巴尔顿的《大鱼》。
从小麦莉就对音乐产生浓厚的兴趣，在很小的时候便开始写歌和学习唱歌。在05年的时候她终于可以把自己的音乐发挥在工作上，她在美国迪士尼频道的电视剧《Hannah Montana》中饰演女主角。麦莉饰演的角色Hannah Montana，是一个年仅14岁的儿童明星，她早上在学校上课，叫Miley Stewart，晚上在台上演出，叫Hannah Montana，同学们都很喜欢Hannah Montana，但不知道Miley Stewart和Hannah Montana其实是一个人，在这一部超搞笑的青春喜剧中，麦莉饰演人格分裂的两个人。
《Hannah Montana》在美国非常火，在播放开始就吸引了540万人收看，迪士尼顺势推出剧集的原声碟《Hannah Montana》。因为剧集受欢迎，原声碟发行第一周就以28.1万张的销量空降Billboard 200专辑榜冠军，成为Billboard全美专辑榜史上首张排行第一的电视剧原声大碟。而在HOT 100单曲榜中，原声碟中的六首都上榜，让《Hannah Montana》成为1991年Nielsen SoundScan和Nielsen BDS数据统计系统启用以来，拥有上榜单曲最多的一张专辑。
同年秋天，麦莉在迪士尼的另一部很受欢迎的剧《Cheetah Girls》作公开演出，还演唱了主题曲《Best of Both Worlds》，后来作为单曲发行，同样大受欢迎。今年3月，《Hannah Montana》的原声大碟再版。
不仅如此，迪士尼还将该剧集的游戏版卖给任天堂，任天堂为它设计了两款游戏，NDS版的《Hannah Montana：Music Jam》是包含吉他和鼓点的节奏游戏，而Wii版则是伴随音乐按键的舞蹈音乐游戏。
这张《Hannah Montana 2: Non-Stop Dance Party》与之前VC上发布过的High School Musical: Non-Stop Dance Party性质相似，是Hannah Montana原声专辑的Remix版本。
