Noll first came to prominence as runner-up of the first series of Australian Idol (2003) which led to him being signed to Sony BMG. He has gone on to release two number one, multi-platinum albums, That's What I'm Talking About and Lift and numerous top five singles including three number one debuts and an additional seven single releases reaching the top 10. Noll's style of music is pop-rock influenced by the likes of Bryan Adams. Noll is the cousin of former Australian Test cricketers, Mark and Steve Waugh.

As of September, 2008, Noll has sold in excess of 1.5 million records worldwide and is the most successful radio artist in Australian history, a phenomenal achievement following only five years of mainstream exposure.

Turn It Up was the third studio album from Australian singer-songwriter Shannon Noll. It was released on September 15, 2007 in Australia with the first single from the album, "Loud", released on September 1. Recording of the album took place throughout May and June of 2007 in Los Angeles. Shannon co-wrote at least nine tracks which were included on the album.

On September 21, it was confirmed by Noll himself that the second single from the album would be "In Pieces". Shannon states "..this song is such a strong ballad and has a personal message for me. It is a song which I wrote when I was seventeen. I think many people will be able to relate to the message in it." The single was released to radio on October 23, and saw a full release in November. The single peaked at number twenty-six in Australia, breaking his record run of consecutive Top 10 hits.
