In
fact, "'E spingule e a frangesa" brings to mind on
one hand a famous song by Salvatore Di Giacomo, 'E
spingole frangese (the safety-pins that were once
used to fasten diapers on babies) and on the other
hand 'A frangesa by Mario Costa. In fact, the work
of these three artists dwells on the revival of
Neapolitan tradition. It is not by chance that
their first CD called Cautamente, in collaboration
with ilManifesto cd, was produced by the Circolo
Gianni Bosio in Rome (who have always been working
in the field of collecting and setting up archives
for the musical heritage of popular tradition).
They bring to the stage the comedy genre with
Cautamente, of which most of the history of
Neapolitan music is innervated with, particularly
lingering on the production of the comedy duo par
excellence of Neapolitan music: the one made up by
Giuseppe Cioffi and Gigi Pisano. They were the
ones who, especially thanks to the flippant and
ironical texts full of double entendres written by
Pisano, in some way reinvented the "macchietta"
genre. No variety show was able to do without
their pieces for decades, which were often brought
to the stage by the great Nino Taranto.
The track list of Cautamente contains famous
pieces such as 'O mare 'e Margellina by Raffaele
Viviani; Lauretta Pompapon, by Cioffi and Pisano,
which was launched by the music-hall singer Ria
Diana; but also some rare pieces such as 'E tre
terature, from the comedy Nina Boné by Salvatore
Di Giacomo
