Busta Rhymes

Busta Rhymes，原名叫做Trevor Smith, Jr.，被认为是美国最有特点的说唱歌手之一。Busta Rhymes在他独成一派的音乐风格中不仅融合了多种丰富的音乐元素，而且他的歌词还非常的幽默。1990年，不满18岁的Busta Rhymes就成立了Leaders of the New School组合并随该组合发行了两张正式专辑。1996年，Busta Rhymes退出Leaders of the New School开始个人发展。同年，他发行的个人单曲《Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check》颇受欢迎。

    1972年，Busta Rhymes出生于纽约布鲁克林区的East Flatbush地区。身为一名牙买加后裔，Busta Rhymes的音乐风格也直接受到了牙买加音乐的影响。1983年，Busta Rhymes搬到了Long Island。在Uniondale High School期间，Busta Rhymes遇到了Charlie Brown，Dinco D.和Cut Monitor Milo。在同样来自Long Island的公敌（Public Enemy）以及另一著名说唱组合Eric B. & Rakim的影响之下，Busta Rhymes与Charlie Brown，Dinco D.和Cut Monitor Milo组建了Leaders of the New School并成功与Elektra公司签约。Leaders of the New School组合非洲感觉的硬派说唱风格为他们在美国地下hip-hop音乐圈赢得了尊重。1991年，Leaders of the New School组合发行了首张同名专辑《Leaders of the New School》。但在1994年，在Leaders of the New School第二张专辑《T.I.M.E.》发行一年之后，组合宣布解散。

    在单飞之后，Busta Rhymes并没有急于个人发展，而是先和圈中好友不断的合作。Busta Rhymes不仅出现在A Tribe Called Quest组合的《Scenario》中，而且还与臭名昭著大先生（Notorious B.I.G.）以及LL Cool J合作了Craig Mack重新混音版的《Flava in Ya Ear》。除此之外，Busta Rhymes与当时诸多大牌的R&B艺人也都有合作，如男孩男人组合（Boyz II Men），马丽·J·布里奇（Mary J. Blige）和TLC组合。1995年，Busta Rhymes不仅获得出演John Singleton的电影《Higher Learning》的良机，而且他也再度与Elektra公司签了约。1996年，Busta Rhymes的首张个人专辑《The Coming》发行首周不仅在Billboard 200专辑榜中名列第六位，而且在Top R&B/Hip-Hop专辑榜中还获得冠军，其中的主打单曲《Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check》成功打入排行榜前十，而这张专辑在发行后不久销量就已经破金。

    1997年9月，Busta Rhymes第二张个人专辑《When Disaster Strikes》发行，获得当时Billboard 200专辑榜的季军。一年之后，Busta Rhymes的第三张专辑《Extinction Level Event》面世。 在2000到2002年的这三年中，Busta Rhymes连续发行了三张专辑《Anarchy》，《Genesis》和《It Ain't Safe No More》，但得到的评价都不如他早期的作品。

    2006年6月，Busta Rhymes加盟Aftermath公司后的第一张专辑《The Big Bang》面世。这张专辑也成为Busta Rhymes的首张Billboard 200专辑榜的冠军专辑，发行首周的销量为20万9千张。在拍摄专辑中重新混音的单曲《Touch》的音乐录影带时，Busta Rhymes的保镖不幸被枪杀。

Busta Rhymes is undoubtedly one of the best and most distinctive rappers of the '90s. He's also one of the most prolific; Anarchy, released in the summer of 2000, is his fourth album since 1996. Each one has been jammed full of material and also a little erratic, packed not only with great singles and tongue-twisting performances but also filler that gets by mostly on Busta's personality. Clocking in at around 78 minutes, Anarchy is no exception to the rule. Its best moments are as brilliant as ever, but there are also signs that Busta's winning formula is starting to show a little wear and tear. "C'Mon All My Niggaz, C'Mon All My Bitches" has the insanely rapid-fire delivery of E.L.E.'s "Gimme Some More," which sums up the difficulty of Anarchy in a nutshell: no matter how incredible it is, we've heard much of this from Busta before. Of course, the converse is also true: a lot of it is still incredible, no matter how familiar, and there are a few intriguing production touches. But, perhaps for the first time, Busta's singular yet now familiar style isn't quite enough to carry the weaker material, which often feels too tossed off. It doesn't help, either, that Anarchy follows the same sort of millennial-apocalypse concept that enlivened E.L.E. (and, to a certain extent, When Disaster Strikes); it's a little disappointing to hear such an inventive rapper retreading familiar territory. It seems almost impossible that Busta could produce a true failure, but by this point, a growing number of fans may not salivate over a new album nearly as much as the inevitable best-of collection.
