Known for his technique and vocal purity, the 18th-century castrato Giovanni Carestini proves a good match with the French counter-tenor Jaroussky. Carestini’s operatic repertoire (Handel, Hasse, Gluck) gives him chances for fireworks, though we’re aware more of engineering than passion in these virtuoso displays. He’s most expressive when purring quietly. Fine accompaniments from Le Concert d’Astrée.
